Job Description

The Clinical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care in the clinic and related administrative duties.

This is a full-time position working Monday-Friday with variable hours out of our Eden Prairie location. May require some travel to other locations.

Twin Cities Orthopedics is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepare, stock, and clean exam room
  • Room patients, obtain vital signs, medical history and prepare for exam
  • Maintain an efficient, organized clinical flow
  • Assist with documentation of patient data into occupational health and orthopedic electronic health records system
  • Change dressings, apply durable medical equipment, and remove sutures/staples under provider direction
  • Perform vision testing, audiometric testing, pulmonary function testing, and EKG’s as directed
  • Administer vaccinations and medications per provider order
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures within established guidelines.
    • Verify patient identification.
    • Point of care testing including drug screens, breath alcohol tests
    • Performs phlebotomy
    • Identifies and uses appropriate collection methods to obtain samples for testing
    • Performs initial specimen processing
    • Collects specimen, evaluates acceptability, and labels specimens.
    • Accurate and timely processing of specimens.
  • Stocks, rotates, and requests testing supplies on a regular basis to ensure proper availability.
  • Evaluates patient orders for completeness and follows up as needed.
  • Assist with DOT and non-DOT physical examinations
  • Maintains safety, education, and competency requirements, certifications, and compliance with OSHA, DOT and workplace health regulations
  • Performs various clerical duties.
  • Application and removal of casts and splints
  • Ensure coding requirements are followed during entry of patient information
  • Act as a prescribing delegate to enter medical orders (i.e. medications, laboratory services, imaging studies and other auxiliary services into the computerized provider order entry (CPOE) into patient electronic records under the direct supervision of the provider
  • Able to support multiple specialties
  • May also assist with any of the following:
    • Assist Care Coordinator with patient care services
    • Assist with medical supply inventory and ordering
    • Screen patient calls and respond to patient in a timely manner. Document all phone messages in the patient’s electronic chart
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Athletic Trainer (AT-C), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Phlebotomy Certification strongly preferred
  • Occupational health, urgent care or primary care experience preferred
  • Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology required
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments preferred

Working Conditions

  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to frequently perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Visual acuity to read electronic and paper documents.
  • Auditory ability to participate in phone or video calls clearly.
  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, printer).
