About the Role Our firm is partnering with a leading manufacturer in the powersports and consumer vehicle space to identify a Color Mastering Specialist. This role plays a critical part in translating design intent into production-ready execution by ensuring color, gloss, texture, and finish consistency across premium, customer-facing surfaces. The ideal candidate brings a strong visual eye, cross-functional collaboration skills, and the ability to balance creative intent with manufacturing realities.
Job Description The Color Mastering Specialist is responsible for managing color accuracy and material consistency across all A-surface materials throughout the product development lifecycle. This role serves as a key liaison between design, engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing to establish standards, resolve issues, and approve production-ready finishes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the color mastering process from design handoff through production sign-off for all A-surface materials
- Leading physical sample reviews and visual alignment sessions across paints, plastics, graphics, fabrics, vinyls, and metals
- Creating, maintaining, and approving master color and finish standards (paint chips, texture plaques, vinyl samples, etc.)
- Partnering with suppliers and internal teams to resolve color and finish discrepancies efficiently
- Maintaining a physical library of approved color and finish standards for cross-functional reference
- Collaborating closely with CMF design, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure alignment
- Supporting new color technologies, material testing, and finish development in coordination with R&D
- Assisting with CMF-related release documentation and production readiness activities
Qualifications Required - Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Materials Engineering, Color Science, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in color development, material specification, or color quality control within automotive, powersports, or consumer products manufacturing
- Demonstrated ability to visually evaluate color, gloss, texture, and finishes under varied lighting conditions
- Hands-on experience working with paints, plastics, decals, and soft goods from a visual quality standpoint
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly document standards and lead cross-functional and supplier reviews
- Reliable work history with the ability to adapt to project-based or contract environments as needed
- Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative and professional approach
Preferred - Experience developing and managing master panels and color standards for manufacturing
- Familiarity with manufacturing tolerances and production constraints related to color and finish
- Experience using visual evaluation tools such as light booths, gloss meters, or spectrophotometers
- Background supporting premium or brand-driven product lines where visual consistency is critical
