The Energy Systems Group is part of the Homeland Protection Division and focuses on assisting the Department of Homeland Security in securing the nation from energy-related threats. Our group works on a wide variety of programs including domestic and tactical military base energy resilience, microgrids - energy systems that can operate independently from the bulk electric grid, cyber security of control systems that interface with energy systems, and development of advanced energy technologies. The group leads systems analysis efforts focusing on the gaps between infrastructure and operational requirements, executes live exercises for testing energy and cyber resilience posture, builds hardware-in-the-loop and real-time simulation platforms, does basic and applied research on technologies, and fields functional prototypes. Projects are typically conducted in a small team environment, leveraging expertise from within Lincoln Laboratory and MIT campus to successfully execute nationally important and cutting-edge efforts.
The Energy Systems Group is seeking highly motivated power electronics engineers who are interested in solving challenging technical problems. Typical activities include system evaluation and design, power supply topology selection, system modeling, lab testing, directing PCB design, system test and evaluation, hardware prototyping, and supporting demonstration, testing and evaluation activities. We seek a candidate who will be flexible and proactive in developing/ implementing leading-edge techniques for power conversion in challenging systems. A good grasp of controls techniques in power electronics is a must. Strong oral and written communication skills are required as the candidate will work with an experienced and interdisciplinary team.
Job tasking will be broad with work in systems such as tactical and handheld devices, higher power microgrids, more traditional grid tied large power converters.
Doctoral degree or MA degree and 3-5+ years of direct experience, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field with a strong background in physical sciences

Experienced Hiring Range: $145,200 - $220,000
