Role Overview
A prestigious K–12 school in Shanghai is seeking an experienced and passionate Secondary Biology Teacher to join its upper secondary division. The successful candidate will deliver rigorous biology instruction at the A-Level or IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) level, preparing students for high-stakes external examinations. This role requires a deep command of biological sciences, expertise in examination preparation strategies, and a commitment to fostering scientific inquiry and critical thinking in advanced learners.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Biology lessons in accordance with A-Level or IBDP curriculum specifications.
Teach core biological concepts including molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, human physiology, ecology, evolution, and plant biology, depending on syllabus requirements.
Prepare students thoroughly for external examinations, including structured revision programmes, past paper practice, exam technique instruction, and time management strategies.
Plan and supervise practical laboratory work, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and developing students' experimental and data-analysis skills.
Assess, record, and report on student progress through regular internal examinations, mock exams, coursework (where applicable), and formative assessments.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student achievement, predicted grades, and university pathway preparation.
Collaborate with the Science department on curriculum mapping, resource development, and cross-disciplinary projects.
Participate in departmental meetings, professional development sessions, parent-teacher conferences, and school-wide events.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related life sciences discipline.
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant and focused teaching experience, with demonstrated examination-level teaching experience (A-Level or IBDP Biology) .
Proven track record of preparing students for external board examinations, including evidence of strong student pass/grade outcomes.
Stable work employment history with no frequent job changes (demonstrating reliability and long-term commitment).
Preferred Qualifications
PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
US state teaching certification (e.g., Standard Teaching Credential in Biology/Science)
Experience teaching both A-Level and IBDP Biology
Familiarity with Internal Assessment (IA) for IBDP or practical endorsements for A-Level
